Mike was in the San Diego area this weekend, so I met him after work yesterday. He was kind enough to drive to the dealer in Ontario and pick up the CF piece which was not going to arrive in time and would therefore have forced me to install it myself. No big deal, but awesome customer service when he drove to pick it up and still made it to San Diego at the time we had agreed upon.
I dropped off the car and he went to work. I received a text message about 2 mins telling me he thought the clutch might be slipping and when the last time I had the clutch/trans adaptation relearn procedure done. I let him know BMW had it for scheduled maintenance just before the warranty expired and that I had asked them to do so. Apparently I had very old software (08 time frame, despite having an evolve tune which I really liked). I asked the dealer to check because I had suspected the clutch might be slipping some, but I had never driven another M6, so I didn't have a frame of reference.
3 Hours later he called me with updates letting em know everything was going well and asking if I wanted an engine and transmission tune. I certainly hadn't planned for it as I thought it drove quite well since I had owned it. I purchased it in March '13. It spent 6 months in storage while I deployed. Anyway, I opted to have him put his tunes on the car as he guaranteed it would make a noticeable difference.
I picked her up at 2030, how's that for customer service on a Saturday night?
My first impressions were "Wow". The CIC unit looked and worked great. The new CF face plate which had recently doubled in price looked awesome and hit perfectly with the stock HVAC controls. The CIC operation is exponentially faster and smoother than the older CCC.
Overall, Mike was very responsive to text messages and phone calls and provided excellent customer service. The CIC retrofit is certainly not a cheap mod, but absolutely worth doing if you intend to keep the car for a few years. Having the CIC retrofit done may even extend the time you choose to keep the car because it updates the single largest concern I had with the M6 in the first place.
Hello everyone. I just wanted to share my CIC retrofit on my 2009 535i. I bought all of the components from BPM sport. Mike was super easy to work with and super helpful. I elected to self install and Mike was still there to get me unstuck when I did get stuck. I can't thank BPM enough for the ease of transaction and help with everything after.
The install was pretty easy actually with almost everything being plug and play. We also removed the MULF and TCU and installed a combox for complete phone and mp3 integration. The combox was probably the most difficult part of the whole process only because it required rerouting of MULF wires, which were located beneath my spare tire, to the combox location by the left rear wheel well.
Everything is OEM activated, no emulators or anything and there are no errors or lost abilities of the car. In fact, things like the voice activation work better. It was kind of hard to talk the car into navigating a specific address before, now it is as easy as my 2013 E70.
Pictures of my new CIC coming soon.
If you love your car then you need to do this retrofit. I have had the car like this for only one evening and I can tell you it is like a new car. I wish I would not have waited so long.
Thanks again Mike at BPM sport! Thanks to everyone on this forum for the info. (Posted on 10/20/14)
I finally got a CIC + combox retrofit done on my X5 through Mike Benvo of BPMsport and I wanted to post a review to tell you of the awesome job he did. I have been wanting this retrofit done ever since I found out it was possible. As you all probably know the CCC is an unwieldy rhino whereas the CIC is an agile panther! I did my research on this forum and others and was all set to send my money to Patryk, however I was a little weary of the DIY aspect of the install going through Patryk. I am technically savy but I would rather have a professional do the install then attempt to do it myself. As a result I started scanning the forums to see if there was somebody in the greater Los Angeles area who could handle a CIC retrofit. My search led me to Mike Benvo and I am so glad I decided to trust him with my car.
The first thing that comes across when you talk to Mike is that he is a consummate professional, off the bat he told me exactly what I needed and even talked me out of a 6nr+iphone cradle upgrade because he felt it would be wasted money! After I placed my order he went about gathering all the parts needed for this retrofit, and he kept me updated constantly as to where my parts were and when they would arrive. Upon arrival of the CIC, screen, controller and a rear camera and parking sensor module Mike checked the parts for scratches; he is a perfectionist when it comes to that type of a thing. After the parts passed his meticulous inspection we set up an install date.
On the day of the install I met Mike at his place of business and he promptly went about taking the car apart like a pro after he was done my poor X5 looked like it had been in a chop shop… After the dismantling was done Mike went about painstakingly putting everything together and recoding the CIC to US specs. There were some issues that arose during the install such as US maps not wanting to install however Mike was able to write a work around for that and now I have 2012 US maps and the best part Bluetooth audio streaming!! Mike even procured and installed the rear LCI taillights and coded all the extra features such as dvd in motion and speed display in the front display for me, thus completing the transformation of my X5.
All in all I am extremely satisfied with the work Mike did and if anyone in the Los Angeles area is looking for a professionally done CIC retrofit I would highly recommend Mike Benvo of BPMsport. (Posted on 10/20/14)
I love my E60 M5 (low miles under 39K) and now will keep much longer. This is worth the upgrade.. Did this myself with a little help from bpmsport - Mike was awesome. Great experience over all 5 stars out of 5. Results, quality of of CIC, precoding, etc....also did back up camera at same time to complete the upgrade. Cannot express how happy I am with doing this.
Have now purchased several items from BPMsport and 100% happy with Coding, SMG upgrade, Engine Tune (Stage 1 and now Stage II engine software , CIC retrofit, back up camera,
soon Com-box and 135I Transmission Upgrades. BPMsport is truly professional, unlike a lot of other I have dealt with. (Posted on 9/30/14)
