1) How does remote coding work?
Remote coding is a fairly simply process. I send you a cable and a flash drive loaded with the coding files. Once you have this, and after setting up the files, the coding session begins. I provide instructions on how to do this, or I can set up the files for you if you wish. Only basic computer skills are required, (copying files from flash drive and joining network) and I take it from there.
2) What are the requirements for remote coding?
Requirements for remote coding are a fairly new PC laptop or MAC laptop. If you have a PC, I will provide all software required. If you have a MAC, you will need VMWare Fusion which can be downloaded from the internet. Other than the computer requirement, you will need a stable wired or wireless internet connection where the car is. The cable can either be rented or purchased from me if you would like to keep it for future coding.
3) How do you accomplish the remote coding?
With 10+ years of both IT and Automotive programming expertise, remote coding has bridged both worlds. Rest assured that you are dealing with an expert that is qualified to perform such upgrades to your vehicle. The preconfigured virtual machine that I provide via flash drive/download, has all of the tools and utilities for me to accomplish the coding. No complex set up is required, and no changes to your computer settings are necessary. The coding is quick, efficient, and painless. I use 100% factory BMW tools to accomplish the coding. You can expect full functionality without any compromise whatsoever. Coding requires absolutely no physical modification to your vehicle, the features are accomplished via software coding only. No changes will result in any error/warning lights, sounds, or messages.
4) Will coding void my warranty or cause any issues at the dealership?
Absolutely not. Being that I use 100% factory tools to perform these feature activations – to the dealer it looks as if your car left the factory floor already equipped. The dealer can interact with your vehicle as if it were a stock car. All of the features I activate are factory options that did not come enabled. There is absolutely no risk involved, even if the internet connection dropped during the coding, your vehicle would still be 100% safe. I have designed this coding system with multiple scenarios in mind, and after vigorous testing, it has my seal of approval for use around the world.
5) How long will the remote coding take?
The initial set up of the coding machine will take about 10 – 15 minutes. Once I am connected to your vehicle, the remote coding time varies depending on the options that are selected. For few options, the coding will take about twenty minutes. If you have a slew of options, the maximum you should expect the coding to take is roughly 45 minutes. From start to finish you are looking at roughly an hour maximum – not bad!
6) What if I’m not sure about some options?
Feel free to call me or email me for further clarification. If you are unsure about certain options, we can enable them for you to see if you like it. Chances are that you will want it. If not, we can put it back the way it was. All of the coding I perform is 100% reversible and makes no permanent change to your vehicle. I also include a complimentary fault code reading of all of the modules in your car, and let you know any existing issues that it may have
7) Navigation Retrofits / Combox Retrofits / BMW Connected Retrofits
Navigation system retrofits to the new version are available for 2008 and up vehicles. For those with the 2009 CIC navigation system without Combox, the Combox can be retrofitted to your vehicle. This will add Bluetooth streaming capabilities amongst other features. The Combox retrofit is completely plug and play, and requires no wire cutting and soldering. 6NR connected drive retrofits are available for cars with specific software levels.
8) ICOM-A Factory tools
The ICOM-A is a BMW specific factory tool and is without doubt the most comprehensive tool available for BMW. The hardware supports full fault code read and re-set, full component activation, electronic control unit procedures, clearing and setting of adaptation values, full coverage of (ECU) control units coding, full programming capability including engine control modules and transmission control modules, adjustment of engine idle, real-time reading of all dynamic data, procedure for engine and immobilizer alignment, fitting of BMW accessories/retrofits and ability to mate second hand control units permanently to the car as if they were factory equipped with the vehicle at hand.
9) ICOM B Most Bus Optical Interface
The ICOM B Most Bus Optical Interface has been designed to program the CCC/CIC control units on BMW. Connecting directly to the fibre optic MOST bus, the ICOM-A is able to communicate with CCC-A, CCC-BO, CCC-ASK, CCC-ANT, ULF TCU and MASK ECUs. The ICOM-B significantly reduces the time to program these control units and further increases the reliability and recoverability of flash updating these control units.
10) Power Stabilization
Intelligent battery charging systems are very important given the technology of BMWs. Our charging system supports 13.6, 13.8 and 14.2V of current @ 75 Amps, which meets or exceeds BMW’s factory programming hardware requirements.
